Pictures and info on the Catcher in the Rye first edition.
The Catcher in the Rye is one of
the greatest works in American literature. This famous novel was the first for
the author J.D. Salinger and there is now an extremely rare first edition
printed in 1951.
The story is about Holden Caulfield’s coming-of-age
experience. Caulfield continually tries to hang on to the innocence of childhood
while at the same time trying to achieve his own sense of maturity. When first
published the book was wildly popular and immediately became a bestseller.
However, it was also the source of much debate and criticism and was even banned
from some schools. This is due to the fact that it exhibits profanity, and it’s
sometimes disrespectful view of the adult world.
The hardcover is still in very good condition and
has a high-quality dust jacket that was covered by Mylar. The price quoted on
the book’s flap is $3.00. The book is a total of two hundred and seventy-seven
pages and was published by Little Brown and Company, Boston in 1951.
This first edition is available today for $299.00.
For any Salinger fan or literary enthusiast, this is a truly magnificent
addition to any collection of classical literature.
