WORLD'S FIRST
NHL GOALIE TO SCORE
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
Who was the world's first NHL goalie to score a goal?
On November 28, 1979 the New York
Islanders were playing the Colorado Rockies and the Islanders were facing a
delayed penalty when one of the Rockies' players put the puck into his own net.
When this happens the last person to touch the puck on
the scoring team gets credit for the goal and that player was Billy Smith, the
Islanders goalie, thus becoming the first NHL goalie to score a goal.
The next goalie to score was Ron Hextall when on
December 08, 1987 he shot the puck down the ice into an empty net becoming the
first goalie to shoot the puck into the net for a goal.
Ron Hextall scored again on April 11, 1989 becoming the
first goalie to score twice and the first goalie to score in a playoff game.
