The story of Boot Hill Cemetery.
Boot Hill Cemetery and
Pioneer Cemetery are pieces of history that still linger with ghosts
of the past. The cemetery can be found 45 miles northeast of Boise
on Highway 21.
Idaho City was at one time a booming
gold rush town in 1962. Prospectors came from around the country to
find their fortune. Today, if you visit you are sure to enjoy the
well-preserved gold rush town as it was in the 1900’s.
You may not enjoy your stay, though, if
you do not like ghosts. Of course, as with many of the old western
towns and gold rush towns, several people died violent death. There
were always gun fights, fires, disease, and even death during child
birth, therefore the spirits of many still roam here.
Several people have witnessed seeing
ghosts float and linger throughout the cemetery, Boot Hill and
Pioneer when darkness falls.
A few young boys recounted seeing an
old prospector with a short beard and western clothing in the
Pioneer Cemetery. In the Chinese section of the cemetery, many have
seen a young Chinese girl standing close by a gravesite.
The old grocery has a ghost that loves
to window shop and browse through the store. The saloon is another
popular hangout for many ghosts. You might just enjoy a drink or a
game of cards with a few of these characters. Nevertheless, do not
be alarmed if they vanish before its time to pay the debt.
