The story of Baldoon Castle.
In Bladnoch, Scotland,
very early in the morning, in and on the grounds of Baldoon Castle,
a woman who died on the grounds can still be seen walking and
grieving in her nightgown, splashed in the blood of her new groom.
The woman’s name is Janet and the man
she had just wed was David Dunbar. However, Dunbar was not at all
the man that she wanted to marry, being that she was in love with
Archibald, third Lord Rutherford. Her parents had forbade her to be
with him in any way due to the fact that he had no money. Instead,
they decided that Dunbar was the perfect man for her to marry.
On their wedding night, yelling and
screams could be heard by the family from within the newlyweds’
room. It seemed that the couple was not getting along very well.
When the family became very worried, especially when only whimpering
could be heard from inside the room, they opened the door. Inside
they saw that Dunbar was on the floor with blood pouring out of his
body. Janet was holding a knife and sat huddled in a corner. While
the cause of the death seemed obvious, local tradition states that
it was actually the Devil that stabbed Dunbar and that he then
turned Janet insane.
Dunbar amazingly survived the night
however he would never speak of what happened in the bridal chamber
that evening. Janet died shortly after on September 12, 1669.
