October 09 2005 The Atlanta Braves and
the Houston Astros took the field in Houston in the National League Division
Series destined to set the record for the longest MLB post season game both in
innings and in time.
After
the regular 9 innings the game was tied 6 - 6.
Chris Burke hit a home run in the bottom of the18th inning
giving the Astros the victory, as well as the series, and finally ending the world's longest MLB post season game.
The previous record was game 6 of the NLCS in 1986 when
the Mets and Astros went 16 innings.
The game lasted 5 hours and 50 minutes edging out the
previous longest between the Mets and the Braves in 1999 by 1 minute.
