The world's longest burning fire is commonly referred
to as the Devil's oven.
So
picture yourself as a coalminer back in 1884 and your dumb bosses don't want to
give you a raise. What do you do?
Easy, you grab a coal car, fill it with timber, soak it
with oil and push it down the mine shaft.
That's exactly what the miners did in New Straitsville,
Ohio back in 1884 and little did they know that the fire would be burning to
this very day.
One bonus from
this situation was that if you lived in New Straitsville
you did not need to buy a coffee pot, the water from the tap was hot enough.
