In Ottawa, the capital of Canada
exists the Rideau Canal, 202 kilometers of waterway, 19 of which is man-made.
The Rideau Canal was completed in 1832 as a military defense plan due to the war
of 1812 with the United States.
Every year, once the waterway freezes, 7.8 kilometers or 4.8 miles is cleared
and maintained, creating the world's longest skating rink, the Rideau Canal
Rideau Canal Skateway is a popular tourist attraction and is also the focus of
the Winterlude festival in Ottawa.
