The cardón cactus, known to some as the
Pachycereus pringlei, has the prickly distinction of being the world's longest
cactus.
The cardón cactus can
be found in the deserts of the Baja California peninsula.
The longest of these thorny beasts have measured 70 feet and pricked the
scales at up to 25 tons.
The
cardón cactus also lives a long time, commonly reaching 300 years.
