Let's face it, the Earth is a long,
long ways away from the Sun, but at times more so than others.
On or about January 4th, it varies but a day or
so, the Earth is just under 91.5 million miles away from the Sun, pretty far,
but in fact this is the closest the Earth gets to the sun.
The moment when the Earth is at it's
closest to the Sun is called perihelion.
Let's jump ahead six months to July 4th, again give or
take a day, when the Earth is at just over 94.5 million miles from the Sun, it's
when the Earth is at it's farthest from the Sun is called aphelion.
Enjoy a nice picture of a sunrise with the silhouette
of some long animal included.
