A canal is an artificial waterway or
artificially improved river used for travel, shipping, or irrigation.
The record for the world's longest canal goes to the Grand Canal of China
also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
Construction of the canal began in 486 B.C. during the Wu Dynasty and
continued on and off for many centuries.
The Grand canal runs from Beijing, ending in Hangzhou, covering a total of
1,794 kilometers.
