Who played the most games in their career in the NHL?

After a career spanning 5 decades Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe amassed an amazing 1,767 regular season games in the NHL, the most regular season games ever played.

Gordie also notched another 157 playoff games for a total of 1,924 NHL games which puts him just short of the overall record.

Gordie did, however, play another 419 regular season games and 78 playoff games in the WHA for a total of 2,421 professional games played.

Mark Messier holds the record for the most overall games played in the NHL.

Mark played 1,756 regular season games and another 236 playoff games for a total of 1,992 games.
