What was the most Ironman races completed in one year?
The Ironman is a triathlon
competition held every year in Kailua Kona, Hawaii in which competitors compete
in three different athletic events. The three different events are swimming,
biking, and running. The swim is a 2.4 mile length across the Kailua Kona Bay.
They continue to bike a distance of 112 miles from Keauhou to Hawaii and then
make the journey back. To prove that they are the true Ironman the competitors
must then run from Keauhou to Keahole Point where they then run to Kailua Kona,
a distance of 26.2 miles. Hawaii began the Ironman Race but it has gained
popularity throughout the world and there are now Ironman events taking place
all over the world. The events are the same and the distances are comparable.
Doing this once a year is exhausting enough but who
can imagine doing this fourteen times in one year? That’s exactly what Jacques
Fox did and he earned the world record for doing so. He started in Malaysia in
February 2004 and ended in Hawaii in November of the same year.
UPDATE:
January 12, 2010
In 2008, over the course of just 9 months Michael J
.Hennessey surpassed the record by finishing 15 Ironmans.
