WORLD'S SECOND DUKE AND
DUCHESS OF YORK
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What were the second Duke and Duchess of York?
The title ‘Duke of York’ is a
title that distinguishes British royalty and is given to the second son of the
British monarch. The wife of the Duke of York is known as the Duchess of York.
Probably the most famous Duchess
of York is Fergie, who is actually Sarah Ferguson. She was married to Prince
Andrew, Duke of York, for ten years and although they were well-known far
outside the palace gates, they definitely were not the second Duke and Duchess
of York.
That title belongs to Edward of
Norwich and he held the title of Duke in the House of York from 1402 – 1415. His
wife, Phillipa de Mohun, was the second Duchess of York and they had no
children.
The Duke Edward of Norwich,
although not the only, was one of the few Dukes in history to carry only this
title throughout his life. Most of the other Dukes have either held another
title, such as King of England. He also stands as one of the few Dukes that
never had a male heir to pass on the crown to.
