Who came in second place in the 1st season American Idol?
Justin Guarini was the runner up
in the first season of American Idol in September 2002.
After a hard
competition, it was him and Kelly Clarkson competing one-on-one in the end and
Clarkson won, making Justin the first runner-up in American Idol history.
Justin
however, still signed a recording contract with 19 Management, which is Simon
Fuller’s other creation in addition to being a creator of the show. However, his
first album, which was self-titled Justin Guarini, took nine long months to be
released after the show and unfortunately, the public momentum for Justin had
long since passed.
The album’s release also coincided with the release of the
new American Idol winner which turned out to be detrimental for Justin. The
relationship between Simon Fuller and Justin was further hampered when Fuller
released the movie From Justin to Kelly, which also featured Kelly Clarkson.
However, the movie did very poorly and while it didn’t impede on Kelly
Clarkson’s career, it didn’t help propel Justin to stardom as Fuller had hoped.
Once Justin was no longer legally bound to 19 Management, he did not resign a
contract with them and has since released several albums though a production
company that has become his own pride and joy, Justice Entertainment.
