Who came in second place in 1st season of Survivor?
Richard Hatch was the winner of
the first season of Survivor, a reality show in which contestants are stranded
on a desert island and left to compete by outwitting, outlasting, and outplaying
the other contestants through a series of challenges. Although Richard Hatch is
without a doubt one of the most famous reality stars to ever be on TV, his
runner-up will not be soon forgotten either. Kelly Wiglesworth was the second
place winner during the first season of Survivor and at the time she was a
white-water rafting instructor.
Wiglesworth secured her place in the Final Two
after winning four straight immunity challenges, ensuring that she would stay in
Borneo and not be voted off. Her alliance of four which included Hatch as well
as Susan Hawk, and Rudy Boesch also helped propel her to her seat in the Final
Two however she had abandoned the alliance long before the final voting
ceremony. It was this abandonment that led Hawk to give one of the most
remembered speeches ever on reality television, in which she compared
Wiglesworth to a rat and told her that if Kelly was dying on the side of the
road and dying of thirst, Hawk would not give her a drink of water.
Before appearing on Survivor, Wiglesworth had
trouble with the law as she was charged with fraud after stealing a credit card
with her boyfriend and spending the money that was left on it. She plea
bargained out of the charge and was left to serve 75 hours of community service
as well as pay back what she owed. After her legal problems, she went on to host
her own reality TV show, Celebrity Adventures, in which she takes huge
celebrities out of their comfort zone by taking them on extreme adventures such
as parasailing and skydiving.
