WORLD'S SECOND VIDEO EVER
PLAYED ON MTV
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What was the second video ever played on MTV?
When the first video to ever air
on MTV, Video Killed the Radio Star, showed up on the television channel, it was
a time before MTV was the place to be and known for having the coolest new shows
with a video tucked in between them here and there. The channel was struggling
indeed and seemed to consist of only a group of people, who didn’t really know
that much about music, and didn’t know that much about putting together a
television show.
The song by the Buggles was followed by five spots
that introduced who would be the veejays for the station. These spots were
played in the wrong order, making the start an even bumpier one for those who
made up the crew of MTV. It’s a wonder that after all of the missteps that they
had already been through in such a short time that a second video was ever seen
on MTV but there was indeed a second video. It was by Pat Benatar and it was You
Better Run. Even though dead air and awkward silence broken up by occasional
murmurings were what followed the playing of this second video, it seemed to
form a good relationship between Benatar and the television station.
It was Benatar’s first video and came from the same
album that reached the Top Ten with the single Hit Me With Your Best Shot. When
she released Love is a Battlefield two years later, it gained a lot of exposure
on MTV, which had already come a long way from the times of dead air and
stumbling around videos.
