What is the second largest country in the world?
The second largest country in the
world, when referring to size in area, is Canada. Canada takes up most of the
northern area of North America and it is bordered mostly by oceans. In the east
Canada is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean whereas in the West, the Pacific Ocean
plays as the country’s neighbor.
Canada only has one country that it shares a land border
with and that is the United States. This border is shared along the southern
part of the country and along the northwestern part of the country. Canada is
made up of 10 provinces and 3 territories and was established as a country on
July 1, 1867.
Although Ottawa, which lies in the province of
Ontario, is officially the country’s capital, it is Toronto, also in Ontario,
that is boasted as Canada’s largest city. Both however, are very representative
of Canada in the way that they are huge ‘melting pots’ and symbolize Canada’s
ethnicity and diversity in the many different cultures that call this land home.
Canada is officially a bilingual country with both French and English being
considered national languages. French is such a huge part of the Canadian
culture due to the province of Quebec, which is mainly French-speaking and
French-residing.
