THE SECOND LETTER
OF THE ALPHABET
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What is the the second letter of the Alphabet?
Ever think about the letters of
the alphabet? Probably not, unless you’re a kindergarten or preschooler teacher
but the fact is that each letter has its own unique origin and its own unique
history.
In the Latin alphabet, which is the standard
English alphabet, the second letter is the letter B. The letter was first
derived from the Greek alphabet, who had the second letter of beta in their
sequence. This is what most looks like a capital ‘B’ although the Phoenician
alphabet before the Greek had the letter ‘beth’, which also looked somewhat like
a ‘B.’ In the beginning of the letter’s history, there was only the capital ‘B’
and the lower case ‘b’ wasn’t introduced until Roman script came along and those
writing in this fashion started, and continued to, write the upper case ‘B’
missing its top loop.
