STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What is the world's smallest insect?
Fairyflies are considered to be
the smallest insect known in existence. The fairyflies are tiny wasps from the
Mymaridae family.
The Costa Rican fairyflies males are no larger than .0139 mm in length. Many of
these fairyflies are only about .5 to 1 mm in length and there have even been
some found to be no larger than 0.2 mm. This means it was only 0.008 of an inch.
Fairyflies are parasites, which lay their eggs on other insects. Their favorite
hosts include beetles, flies, leafhoppers, and booklice.
It would take a microscope to see these tiny wasps.
