JACKALOPES
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What is a Jackalope?
Jackalopes may sound like very
strange creatures that only exist in the minds of those wanting a bit of
publicity; however, many people have reported seeing these unusual creatures in
Wyoming and throughout the American West.
The Jackalope if it really exists is one of the
rarest animals in the world. It is a cross between a species of killer rabbits
and the pygmy deer which is not extinct. The Jackalope has antlers, is brownish,
weighs around three to five pounds and can move with speeds up to 90 miles per
hour.
Many people have claimed seeing the Jackalope in
Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and New Mexico. It is also believed that the
American Jackalope has cousins in Germany known as the wolperdinger and in
Sweden by the name of skvader.
However, many believe that the Jackalope is the
mystical creature that was created in 1939 by Douglas Herrick who was at that
time a resident of Douglas Wyoming. He and his pals had been out hunting. He
walked into the shop and tossed a jackrabbit on the floor, it slid up against a
pair of deer horns lying on the floor. A taxidermist friend of Douglas’s decided
to mount the “jackalope” and the legend began.
On the other hand, scientist have their own
explanation which is that a virus known as paillomatosis which causes a growth
caused by a parasite to harden the top of a rabbits head, thus resembling horns.
No one will know for sure if the jackalope exists
until some brave soul can capture this fast creature on film.
