They are often used in movies as a hero’s main mode of transportation, they are considered very powerful due to their use in old times of war, they can be shown at special shows and awarded prizes, and they are so fast that people use them to make wagers. Below are some other interesting facts about this magnificent animal that you may not have known before.

• When a horse seems “off” or is limping, it is often diagnosed as a leg problem when in fact it is often a back or hip problem.

• Horses are colour-blind. They see objects in black, white, or shadow form. When a horse looks at colour, that object appears as either black or white.

• Mounting a horse from the left side is from ancient Greek times. Greek armies used to carry their swords on the right side, which made it impossible for them to mount a horse on the same side.

• In the United States, 1.9 million people own horses.

• Foals are most often born at night. This is true of both wild and domestic foals but it’s because the wild foal’s pack is more likely to be stationery at that time.
